Dubai’s luxury resorts were thrown into confusion and fear after Iranian missile strikes linked to the widening regional conflict were reported near the emirate, forcing tourists to take shelter in underground car parks and hotel basements.

Visitors staying at high-end beachfront properties described scenes of panic as loud explosions echoed across parts of the city. Some initially mistook the flashes and booms for fireworks, a common sight in Dubai’s skyline. “At first we thought it was a celebration,” one tourist said. “Then the sirens started.”

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates moved quickly to reassure residents and visitors, stating that air defence systems were activated and that the situation was under control. Officials confirmed that several people sustained minor injuries, largely due to panic and stampedes rather than direct impact.

The incident marks a dramatic extension of the escalating confrontation between Iran, the United States and Israel, raising concerns that the Gulf region could be drawn further into the conflict. Dubai, known globally as a luxury tourism and financial hub, has rarely experienced such direct security threats.

Airlines briefly delayed departures, and some beach clubs and malls temporarily closed as a precaution. By evening, however, much of the city had resumed normal operations.

Security analysts warn that the psychological impact on tourism and investor confidence could linger, even if further attacks are avoided.
