Air travel across large parts of the Middle East has been severely disrupted following coordinated US and Israeli strikes on targets inside Iran, triggering heightened security alerts and widespread flight cancellations.

Major international airlines suspended or rerouted flights through key air corridors over Iran, Iraq, the Gulf region and parts of the eastern Mediterranean. Aviation authorities cited safety concerns amid fears of retaliatory missile attacks and potential airspace closures.

According to flight tracking data, dozens of aircraft were diverted mid-route, while several carriers temporarily halted operations to major hubs in the Gulf. Airports in countries including the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain reported schedule adjustments as airlines reassessed risk levels.

The disruption follows reports of missile and drone strikes carried out by US and Israeli forces against Iranian military-linked facilities. In response, Iran warned of retaliation, raising concerns that civilian aviation routes could be affected if the conflict expands.

Industry analysts say airlines are closely monitoring NOTAMs (Notices to Airmen) and coordinating with international aviation regulators. Insurance costs for flights operating in the region are also expected to rise if tensions persist.

Global aviation bodies have previously warned that military escalation in the Middle East poses serious risks to commercial aircraft due to overlapping airspace used by civilian and defence systems.

Passengers travelling to or from the region have been advised to check with airlines for updated schedules, as further cancellations or diversions remain possible while the security situation evolves.
